Workwear tops/coats for winter

Elevating workwear tops/coats

I’ve noticed when it comes to workwear tops and being on camera, fitted tops are typically the way to go for me in the winter.

When you’re on camera, live shots usually show the waist up. On me, a more fitted top looks more flattering than a baggy blouse. From my experience, fitted shirts also work best with a long coat, but the problem with that right now, IT’S FREEZING OUT. Of course most days right now, a sweater is a must! High-neck tops also keep your neck nice and warm. I’m a big fan of a turtleneck.

Below are some sweaters and tops that I’ve found. They’re work-appropriate and will keep you warm out there!

Products you NEED as a journalist

I’ve quickly realized a fanny pack is the best thing to have at work.

You can keep all your necessities close to you. I carry lip gloss/chapstick, extra batteries, lav mic, an extra hair tie (for windy days), and business cards!

I need to be better at staying hydrated throughout the day. Usually, I don’t because I fear a gas station bathroom (you get the struggle newsies). A big tumblr is essential for ice-cold water or hot coffee.

A phone lav is a lifesaver and pretty inexpensive to stay with you for emergencies.

Last, but not least, a phone tripod. It’s now essential for my live shots. I can be hands-free and have the stand right underneath me for reading. I talk with my hands so it’s more natural for me to not hold anything.

Casual outfit for day and night

Two posts back I said I’d have the details on the casual outfit I wore on my night out in Jersey City.

That day, I was going back and forth for awhile on what to wear out. My other option was a pair of girlfriend jeans, a simple white cami bodysuit and a pair of bright red mules, for a fun pop of color.

I decided on wearing white jeans, a beige crop top and black espadrilles. I paired this casual outfit with a straw bag (reminded me of a mini picnic basket) and I tied a leopard printed scarf around the bag. The reason I chose this casual outfit and not the other look was because I can only wear white jeans for so long (and I LOVE white jeans). I had to take advantage of the fact that it was still summer and I could wear white jeans. In a few weeks it’ll be fall and I’ll no longer be able to wear my favorite white denim out at night *sheds tears.* This outfit is great too because it works both during the day or night.

When I’m going for a night time look I love a curled midi ponytail. I think if I was wearing this outfit during the day I would’ve kept my hair down, but for some reason the updo strikes me as a good night look.

The top is from a local boutique called Lucki Clover. I’m pretty sure you can order off of their Instagram. Click here to shop their Instagram! Lucki Clover is one of my favorite boutiques. I rarely go to the mall now because I find everything I need at Lucki Clover. I’m not alone in loving this store, my Connecticut roomies will visit and one of the first things they want to do is go to Red Bank and shop at Lucki Clover.

I’ve talked about these white jeans before and I’m talking about them again. I found these stretchy, high waisted white jeans from MARSHALLS. Like what?!! I never expected to find my favorite jeans there but I did. Usually, stretchy jeans start off fitted, but then overtime over stretch and become too big. NOT THESE. I’ll post the brand of them once I get home. I highly recommend them!

The cross body was my friend Jess’s. I have the circle straw bag, but I didn’t bring it with me on this trip. I loved her bag because the strap was white, matching the jeans and again, it reminded me of a little picnic basket. These straw like bags are one of the biggest summer trends and it has been for the past two summers. To add something to the outfit and tie it all together, I used one of my hair scarves that had the beige, white and black coloring.
