Hey! Thanks for stopping here. My name’s Olivia Schueller and I’m a reporter in Huntsville, AL.
I graduated from Quinnipiac University in December 2020 and started working in Alabama on January 11, 2021.
I’ve worked in news for over a year now and everything your college professors told you is right.
This job is mentally and physically demanding. You don’t get paid like a doctor. You have tight deadlines every day. Not everyone is nice or likes the “media.” You’ll be told no more than yes. Your computer will crash. Your SD card will fail you. The list goes on….
BUT — if you work choose to work or stay in news it’s because you love the thrill and helping others.
Working a tough day will only make you that much stronger and the pain is a part of the path.
If you don’t work in news, this will sound dramatic. If you do, you get it.
I’m creating this new site as a resource for others. You’re not alone. I could not do this job without the support of friends in the business. If you don’t have that support system, where you are, you’ve found one here.
I’m shifting my former lifestyle blog to a self-help site for journalists, you may come across old posts.
This site has no affiliation with my work.
