Affordable bedroom decor for those on a budget

I’m finally getting all settled in my new apartment. At first, it felt like I was living in someone’s home.

I got so used to living in Alabama that coming back to New England, back living with my college roommate, has been both nostalgic and kind of unreal. I did not imagine I’d be back in the North East so quickly.

When I was coming up with the concept for my apartment bedroom decor, I wanted something a bit more mature, cohesive, and of course, cozy.

I bought the quilt first and worked around that. For my bedroom decor, I knew I wanted two side tables and hunted for an affordable one. I loved the two I found on Amazon for an affordable price. I thought the black contrast would be nice and out of my comfort zone (beige/white). I was also drawn to the three drawers for storage.

In order to make it all cohesive, I was drawn to the industrial side table lamps. They also have alllllllll the outlets needed to charge your devices which is so nice. For both of them, I only spent $50!

Surprisingly, the majority of this is all AMAZON! If I didn’t link something there’s a chance it’s from HomeGoods or Marshalls.

It’s no secret! I’ve moved over 800 hundred miles away from New Jersey to sweet home Alabama for my dream job as a TV news reporter.

I was so nervous about leaving all the familiarity of home to go somewhere new. I had never even been to Alabama. It was so important for me to make my apartment feel like MY home. I tried to make it cozy as possible with all the apartment decor. Coming back here at the end of the day gives me so much comfort.

The move was…eventful. The moving company promised a delivery on Jan. 6….it showed up Jan. 9. As I type this it sounds silly, what’s a few extra days, right!? Well, my Mom and I slept on an air mattress for one too many nights. Mom had to extend her days and change her flight. It was a pain, but I’m lucky she was able to stay longer. Just a hiccup during the move, but it all showed up and we’re thankful for that.

I feel very grateful for this space and apartment, I’ve worked really hard to have something like this and I’m so happy this apartment is now my home. One day, I’ll live in a more neutral toned space, so while I’m living alone and am young, I wanted a FUN space.

I played with color and ran with it. I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and sway away from neutrals with my apartment decor. Of course, my go to accent color is pink, so you’ll see subtle touches of it all throughout. The main statement in this apartment is the couch. BOLD but I love it. There’s no time like now to have fun with a space. I think it has vintagey/retro vibe but more modern.

Everything is linked below! Just click the images. The bar stools are from AtHome, I couldn’t find the exact stools but recommend that store for anything home/apartment decor. I had never been there and yeeesh, it was AMAZING.

I WISH I had a picture of my bedroom before, but I’ll try to give you the visual. Bubble gum pink walls, black curtains (which were once zebra, haha) and black comforter, yikes…I know. I said goodbye to the childhood bedroom this summer. We renovated my room over the span of a few weeks.

I have a big girl room now, ha! This is my bedroom in New Jersey, not at Quinnipiac. I have the blog post of my bedroom at Quinnipiac, here.

The theme for this bedroom was calm neutral colors, so white, beige/tan and then a contrast of black detailing (frames, shelves). I get a little coastal vibe from the room too. We (Mom and I) mixed metals, so you’ll see silver and gold, I feel like this is becoming very common to do, with jewelry too!

My favorite part of the room renovation is the wicker rug, it’s rustic, gives that coastal vibe and really ties the room together. Of course, you can’t see the rug in any of the pictures I took before I left for school, actually you basically are only seeing my bed. Everything from my room is linked so you can shop and see it all.

The little hanging plant is in the corner of my room from Target. My dressers were super outdated yellow looking wood, really unsure what that’s call but my parents bought it when I was born. So, to modernize it, my Mom pained it all white (color of ceiling) and we added new gold nobs. I LOVE how the dresser and side table look now. Paint and changing out nobs can do wonders!!

Questions? Let me know in comments, everything is linked for you! If it’s out of stock, I linked a similar one (like the lamp). I’m really trying to be consistently posting again, the next one is exciting and most likely, a BIG life change…

Today I’m posting some bedroom decor inspiration from my college bedroom. Every year, I make it such a big deal to re-coordinate/decorate my bedroom. Obviously, year to year, I recycle my desk, bedding and furniture items, because duh, I am in college and on a college budget. I tell myself majority of what I’ve bought will carry over to my first apartment, which it deffinitely will. Honestly, a slight addition or change in a space each year makes a HUGE difference.

Last year, I kept it bright, neautral and white. I loved it and because I was sharing a room it coordinated really well to keep with the beiges. My room this year is basically the exact same thing but with some additions. The additions I made were a rug with color, a light up neon sign (major change in the vibe of the room) and I eliminated some pillows. Subtle changes can really change the feel of a room, and it doesn’t have to be crazy expensive.

PRO TIP:

My number one trick is to buy pillow inserts and covers from Amazon. This way you can switch out pillow covers each season/year. New covers are inexspensive to get, but new pillows can be another $30 – $50 dollars. Throw pillow covers are much less then that! Again, this can really change a room year to year.

Most of my bedroom decor is from Amazon, Target and HomeGoods. I’d say the most affordable stores are Amazon and HomeGoods. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I trust Amazon reviews with my life. If a product has good reviews, I trust it. They haven’t lead me wrong, yet!

I hope you gained some bedroom decor inspiration from this post. I’ve linked all my decor pieces below. Some decor items I’ve bought a year or two ago and they’re sold out. In that case, I’ve linked similar pieces! I hope you’ve found some bedroom inspiration.
