Trip to Maine – Visiting Kennebunkport and glamping

I know what you may be thinking, what the f*ck is glamping? Some of you may know, some of you may not, but glamping is “glamorous” camping. Trust me, I’m not a camping girl, but after this weekend…I can say I’m a glamping girl!

Chris and I were so happy another couple asked us to go on this trip with them. We TOTALLY didn’t think of this, it was all them. Prior to the pandemic, Chris and I were going to take a little trip to either Porstmouth, NH or Newport, RI to celebrate two years together and Christmas. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen because the pandemic shut down the entire WORLD. We were bummed and didn’t think there would be any options out there for awhile.

Luckily, glamping was the perfect answer. We could maintain social distancing with ease because we stayed in these little huts and they weren’t right next to eachother.

The day we got there we went into the downtown area of Kennebunkport. We first visited the Bush compound, which for not being a history girl, was pretty cool and beatiful to see. We headed back to our hut at Sandy Pines campground (where we were staying), had a fire and enjoyed the night.

Our friends came a day after us, so we took that time to go into Portland, Maine, which was 35 minutes away from where we were in Kennebunkport. Chris and I wanted to see some light houses so he found Portland Head Light. There was also a cliff walk there along the coast. It was seriously AMAZING and was such a good find (good job Chris). All the pictures from Portland are below!

Once our friends got to the campground, we headed into town with them. We went to Batson River, Brewing and Distilling and then Federal Jacks for dinner. I give it all a 10/10. At the brewery/distillery I got green tea gin and it was AMAZING. Of course afterwards I had a beer. We were at a brewery/distillery after all, I had to try both!

Every dinner there was SO good. Each day, a lobster dish was a go to for all of us. Chris and I both said we had a top 5 meal at The Pilot, in Kennebunkport.

We also went to the beach one day, which was definitely different than the Jersey shore I’m used to, but it was STUNNING. It really was so beautiful and relaxing. At the beach, we found out our friend, Caroline, passed her nursing exam and is officially a RN. We had some major celebrating to do!

At night we had a fire and s’mores. Chris and I packed two things and our friends had a big car packed up…WAY more prepared. How did Chris and I not think to get s’mores?!? If we go back we have a LIST of things we will make sure to bring, including s’mores.

Caroline brought lanters with her and we lit them off on the beach. With wine and music, it was a dream..

On our way out, we went to The Clam Shack, which was recommended to us. At first when we saw it, we were underwhelmed..but after eating at the grab and go restaurant, everyone agreed it was the best lobster roll they’ve had in Maine. Later on in the day, I saw that it’s rated the #1 place to get a lobster roll in Maine, so take note!

If you get the chance to go to Maine, definitely go! If you’re in the New Jersey area it’s worth the five hour car drive. Right Chris?  glamping in Maine
